2 Years Later, Suspects Arrested In Father Of 4's Slaying

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police arrested two suspects on Tuesday for the 2011 murder of a father of four in Santa Ana.

Juan Diaz, 36, was gunned down on Nov. 2, 2011, while he was driving a van on Edinger and Grand avenues.

KCAL9's Michele Gile reports that police said a tip came in recently about two men—25-year-old Steve Moreno and 29-year-old Emmanuel Vega.

Detectives said Vega was driving a black Toyota 4-Runner—the same vehicle seen on security video fleeing the scene of the crime—when he was taken into custody on Tuesday.

"My understanding is that the individual [who] owns the 4-Runner moves to the Inland Empire with his family, he's working in Chino, that's where we caught him. Our other suspect [Moreno] is living here in Santa Ana with his wife and kids and working in the construction business," said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Both Vega and Moreno, who is married to Diaz's cousin, were booked on suspicion of murder.

"I waited two years and now to know that they finally got them…I thought they were never going to get caught. But now that I know that they did, I'm relieved," the victim's sister, Araceli Diaz, said.

Diaz's loved ones make special T-shirts to commemorate the anniversary of his death.

"My brother was the heart of the family. I mean, it destroyed our family. He was everything to us," Araceli said.

The district attorney's office is now reviewing the case.
