VICTORVILLE (AP) — The accused gunman in the execution-style slayings of a teen couple at an old Mojave Desert bunker has accepted a plea deal to avoid the death penalty.

The Victorville Daily Press reports 24-year-old Collin Lee McGlaughlin pleaded guilty Monday to murder, kidnapping and other charges related to the 2008 slayings. He will be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Jan. 17.

McGlaughlin was among three young men charged in the deaths of high school sweethearts Bodhi Sherzer-Potter of Helendale and Cody Thompson of Apple Valley after a party at the abandoned military bunker.

According to court testimony, the defendants woke the teens up and shot them inside the bunker. McGlaughlin allegedly bragged in jail that shooting someone was a “hell of an adrenaline rush.”
