Mystery Patron Leaves Thousands In Tips In Name Of Jesus

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A mystery patron is leaving thousands of dollars in tips in the name of Jesus at restaurants and bars across the country.

For the past three months, an Instagram account with the username tipsforjesus has been posting pictures of receipts from eateries in Chicago, San Francisco, Indiana, and Los Angeles with tip amounts ranging from $500 to $10,000.

The account reads, "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time."

The person recently left a server at The Hungry Cat in Hollywood a $1,000 tip on a nearly $266 bill.

"The server came up to me and said, 'Somebody left me $1,000,'" The Hungry Cat's Becky Graziano said.

Graziano said the customer was gone, but left a mark on the receipt.

"It had 'tipsforjesus' in several places. It was stamped four or five times," she said.

KCAL9's Serene Branson said the servers pool tips, but it was still more than $200 a person.

"Servers sometimes are underappreciated in the business, looked down upon … for them to get something nice, especially right before the holiday season, is a really good thing," Graziano said.

Regulars at The Hungry Cat heard about the heartwarming gestures.

"When I saw the size of the tips, I thought it was really amazing, and it was a real blessing for people who might need it in the holiday season," Mike Dennis said.
