260 Pounds Of Marijuana Drops Out Of The Sky In San Diego

SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — It's no drug-induced fantasy – marijuana literally fell from the sky Wednesday in San Diego.

Border Patrol agents say an ultra-light plane they were tracking left Mexico on Wednesday, flew less than two miles across the border into the U.S. and dropped more than 260 pounds of marijuana near Brown Field.

At the drop site, a 32-year-old man and a 49-year-old man, both from Mexico, were arrested and 10 bundles of marijuana worth more than $150,000 were recovered, along with a cage device used to attach the cargo to the plane. Border Patrol officials say one of the suspects is in the country illegally and the other is a legal permanent resident.

The plane never landed and returned to Mexico, authorities said. The pilot escaped.
