LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police on Monday asked for the public’s assistance in finding a 95-year-old woman who was last seen Sunday being wheeled out in a wheelchair from a convalescent home.
Authorities said Flora Johnson, who suffers from multiple medical conditions, was with two female relatives when she was taken from Western Convalescent Hospital on West Adams Boulevard.
One of the women has been identified by family members as Judy McGee, Johnson’s niece. The other woman was possibly McGee’s daughter.
Johnson’s son, Charles, said McGee may have taken his mother for personal gain. He added that nurses knew his mother was only allowed to be released to him or his brother.
“I feel that not only I, but my mom, has been betrayed in the sense of the security factor,” he said.
Charles Johnson said that if his mother doesn’t have her medication and proper care, she will suffer complications.
“I’m very concerned that her health is deteriorating as we speak,” he said. “Don’t compromise her health. For whatever reason they may have had for taking her away, please put that aside and think of her well-being.”
Johnson was described as black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 145 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes.
City News Service indicated Johnson had been found on Monday afternoon, but that information was inaccurate, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Anyone with information on her whereabouts was asked to contact the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit at (213) 996-1800.
