LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A funeral was held Monday morning for the slain father of a Assemblyman Mike Gatto.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports the body of 78-year-old Joseph Gatto was found by his daughter in his Silver Lake home on Nov. 13.

Gatto, a former art teacher at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, had been shot in the abdomen in what the Los Angeles Police Department believes was a possible burglary gone wrong.

Family members, friends, and local political leaders including Councilman Tom LaBonge attended the service for Gatto, which was held at 10 a.m. at Our Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Church.

"This is my neighborhood church, Mother of Good Counsel, and Joseph Gatto was a man of good counsel," LaBonge said.

Meanwhile, the LAPD is still searching for his killer. Last week, authorities released a sketch of a suspect who they believed vandalized Gatto's car the night of his death.

He is described as white and between 20 and 25 years old. He appeared to be 5-foot-9-inches and 180 pounds. The suspect was wearing a multi-colored, camouflage-type hooded sweatshirt and carrying a tan drawstring backpack.

Officers have been handing out flyers with the sketch and suspect info to people walking around Silver Lake. They're asking anyone with information concerning this case to contact Detectives Barry Telis and Chris Gable at (213) 486-6890. Anonymous tips can be given by calling (800) 222-TIPS(8477).
