PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — Three people were hurt — one seriously — when a car plowed into a crowded restaurant in Perris Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to a call just after 3:20 p.m. at the Sol y Mar Mexican Grill located at 2986 N. Perris Boulevard.
One diner suffered major injuries, according to Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Melody Hendrickson.
Two other patrons suffered moderate to minor injuries, Hendrickson added. All of the injured were transported to the hospital.
Offcials said the driver had just left a business and attempted to leave the parking lot when he lost control of the vehicle.
The driver was identified as 19-year-0ld Mario Balverde of Romoland. Authorities said Balverde was under the influence at the time of the collision.
He was arrested and booked for felony DUI resulting in injuries.
Balverde escaped injury, Hendrickson said.
