Man, 89, Struck By Pickup Truck In Monterey Park

MONTEREY PARK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said an 89-year-old man was struck by a pickup truck and suffered major injuries in Monterey Park Saturday.

The accident occurred just before 10 a.m. at the intersection of Newmark and Ynez Avenues, according to Lt. Eric Kim of the Monterey Park Police Department.

Kim also told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that the unidentified victim was in a marked crosswalk at a 4-way intersection when hit.

The victim was heading south on Ynez when he was struck by a Monterey Park Recreation and Community Services Department Ford F-350, CHP Officer Timothy Kinyon told the Tribune.

The pickup's driver, a city worker in his early 20s, had been turning left from northbound Ynez Avenue to westbound Newmark Avenue, Kinyon said.

An update on the man's condition was not available and Monterey Park police referred all questions to the CHP.
