Student Pleads Not Guilty To Carrying Loaded Firearm Onto UC Irvine Campus

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A UC Irvine student pleaded not guilty Wednesday to carrying a loaded firearm on campus.

Manas Moole Reddy, of Irvine, is charged with one felony count each of possessing a loaded firearm on a college campus, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, according to the Orange County District Attorney.

The 28-year-old was arrested on Nov. 18 after a UCI student alerted campus police to a man standing near a tree just north of Steinhaus Hall Service Road while clutching a firearm inside an open shoulder bag slung across his chest.

Campus police officers arrived and arrested the defendant, who is accused of possessing a revolver loaded with six bullets.

Reddy is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Dec. 2.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison.
