Arrests Made In Fatal Shooting Of Check-Cashing Clerk In Chino

CHINO (CBSLA.com) — Police have made two arrests in connection with Friday's deadly shooting of a check-cashing clerk in Chino.

Vanessa Martinez, 24, of Riverside was fatally shot inside the Check N Go in the 12000 block of Central Avenue just before 1:30 p.m.

Investigators say the pair entered the business looking for cash and opened fire, killing Martinez. They described the crime as "very brazen."

Overnight Saturday, officers arrested one of two suspects, identified by police as Jorge Cisneros. He was located at a nearby apparent complex in Ontario. Police said Cisneros was the suspected shooter.

Authorities also said they obtained "a complete confession" from Cisneros.

A second suspect was arrested on Saturday morning in the 400 block of County Road in Pomona, Chino police told CBS2's Joy Benedict.

Police have now identified the second suspect as 29-year-old David Mendez of Pomona.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of robbery and murder charges.

CBS2's Greg Mills reported from outside the Check N Go. He said the store was normally opened on Saturday but remained closed today even as several employees could be seen inside.

A steady stream of Martinez's friends also came by to pay their respects, reported Mills.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the Chino Police Department at (909) 628-1234.
