WINDSOR SQUARE (CBSLA.com) — Mayor Eric Garcetti has decided to move his family from their private Silver Lake home to the official mayoral residence at the Getty House in Windsor Square.
In the New Year, Garcetti, his wife, Amy Wakeland, and their daughter will relocate to the 8,000-square foot Tudor-style mansion, which has housed mayors including Tom Bradley and Antonio Villaraigosa.
Neighbors were told about Garcetti’s decision at a meeting of the Windsor Square Association.
“I think everyone is pretty excited about it,” Gretchen Fourticq said. “I think we’re glad to have the mayor back in the neighborhood.”
Bryce Frye, who moved to the area three months ago, said the Garcettis will like the neighborhood.
“Yeah, I really liked it since I’ve moved here, so I think they will, as well,” he said.
The relationship between the mayors and residents, however, hasn’t always been positive.
Just a few years ago, the neighborhood was upset about a plan to build higher security walls around the home.
“The mayor’s house is secure, but the solution they have doesn’t feel like a fortress. We didn’t want a fortress in the middle of a residential neighborhood, ” Fourticq said.
At the end of the day, Fourticq believes the Garcetti family will fit right in.
“This is their home. It’s not just a place where they’re hosting parties. I think that’s going to change the way they interact with their neighbors because they have to pull out of their driveway every day and see them like the rest of us do. And when you do that, I think you’re a little more thoughtful about how you’re impacting people,” she said.
