LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A man detained at Los Angeles International Airport for allegedly brandishing a weapon is not expected to be charged, authorities said Saturday.

The 27-year-old man from San Jose was taken into custody Friday evening but was released several hours later, according to police.

Police said the incident unfolded shortly after 9 p.m., after several witnesses observed the man allegedly with a weapon in his possession.

“Airport Police was notified and officers responded to the location immediately and the suspect was taken into custody without incident,” Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) police said in a department statement.

Following the course of the investigation, the man was taken to the LAPD Pacific Division station, where he was later released.

“According to [the] LAPD, the suspect’s actions did not meet the elements of a crime and he was released without further incident,” according to the statement.

The scare occurred exactly a week after a deadly shooting rampage inside Terminal 3 claimed the life of TSA officer Gerardo I. Hernandez.
