Hollywood Park Has Its Final Opening Day
INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com/AP) -- Cyclometer took the lead approaching the stretch and won the $63,544 feature by 2 1/4 lengths Friday on opening day of the final autumn meet at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Mike Smith, Cyclometer ran 6 1/2 furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:15.71 and paid $5.60, $2.80 and $2.10.
Hear the Ghost returned $2.40 and $2.10 as the even-money favorite in his first start since March 9. Atta Boy Pete was another nose back in third and paid $2.80 to show.
Cyclometer won for the fourth time in 15 career starts, and increased his earnings to $250,554.
Rafael Bejarano rode three winners on the card.
Friday was the final opening day in its 75-year history.
Fun fact: Walt Disney was one of the original shareholders of the park and Seabiscuit won the track's first signature race -- The Gold Cup.
Hollywood Park was also the home to one of the greatest fillies of all time -- Zenyatta.
