Witnesses Chase Down Hit-And-Run Suspect In Ontario

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Witnesses to an alleged hit and run chased down the suspect, who is now in custody.

Witnesses to the incident, which occurred at Mountain Avenue and Philadelphia street in Ontario, say the driver struck two pedestrians and took off.

"I just heard a guy scream at the top of his lungs, 'Stop the car, stop the car, stop the ... car,'" one witness said.

The family of the driver, meanwhile, suggests he was not attempting to flee the scene; they say he was scared and in shock after the pedestrians were struck.

The two pedestrians reportedly were not in a crosswalk when they were struck. They reportedly suffered serious injuries.

The residents near the scene say the stretch of road at which the pedestrians were hit is an especially dangerous area. They say the road is in desperate need of a traffic light and a crosswalk.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run.
