Santa Ana Man Arrested For Attempted Murder Of His Infant Daughter

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com)  — A 30-year-old Orange County man is facing charges of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to kill his 2-month-old daughter.

Andres Tafoya was arrested Sunday for attempted homicide and causing willful harm or injury to a child, the Santa Ana Police Department said.

According to authorities, an infant girl was admitted to a local hospital Friday in critical condition, suffering from head and skull injuries.

Investigators say the child was injured when her mother left the girl with Tafoya while she went to work for the day.

"Tafoya is believed to have punched the infant multiple times to the head causing injury," police said. "Tafoya assisted in taking the baby girl to the hospital, but fled prior to police arrival."

He is currently being held at the Santa Ana Jail on $1 million bail. Tafoya was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
