Could A New Type Of Dentistry Make You Look Younger?

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A new type of dentistry could be the answer to a more youthful appearance.

If there's one thing people notice about Nancy Brazil, it's her smile.

A few years ago, however, she stopped using it so much.

"I noticed that I feel more asymmetrical, like my smile isn't the same. If I see a picture from two or three years ago to today, there's a big difference," Brazil said.

What Brazil saw was thin lips, wrinkles around her mouth, a hollowness in her cheeks, a drooping jawline, and sagging under the chin.

Brazil looked into plastic surgery but wasn't comfortable with it. She then heard about Anti-Aging Dentistry.

"Anti-Aging Dentistry is a way to actually change the facial features through changing the teeth. Nancy is a very unique situation. What was happening with her face, it was only in the lower one-third. The upper two-third looks beautiful, she's a gorgeous girl," said Dr. Kourosh Maddahi.

Maddahi said a facelift would be a temporary solution to Brazil's problem. What was making her look older wasn't sagging skin — it was her jawline and teeth.

"Your teeth have moved in because of age and also the wear and the bite, so you have a thinner lip. And, in the back, where you had the teeth taken out when you were younger…also, you lost volume in your face," Maddahi told Brazil.

To sculpt Brazil's teeth, Maddahi used veneers — porcelain overlays on top of her natural teeth — and crowns to fill out the back.

It would take just three visits — in one week — to change Brazil's face.

With the support of her new teeth filling out her face, the lines around Brazil's mouth were gone, her lips were fuller, and she didn't have sagging skin.

"It's a big difference. I love it," Brazil said.

The cost of Anti-Aging Dentistry depends on how many teeth and how much sculpting needs to be done. It can range from a couple thousand dollars to much more.
