CATALINA ISLAND (CBSLA.com) — A light plane crashed on Catalina Island Sunday slightly injuring three of the four people aboard.

It was not known if the plane was landing or taking off at the time of the crash, said Miguel Orenelas, a supervisor with LA County Fire.

The plane crash occurred just before 3:10 p.m. near Airport In The Sky Airport.

One of three passengers reportedly suffered a broken leg in the accident, according to LA County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.

Two other passengers complained of back pain following the crash.

Three people were transported by emergency service helicopters to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and County-USC Medical Center. The condition of the fourth person on the plane was not known.

The National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates all aircraft incidents, has been advised of the crash, Pickett said.
