LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Passengers at LAX Terminal #3 Friday were going to different places but all of them could meet at one place -- fear.

Witnesses who heard or saw a gunman walk in and casually take aim at TSA agents -- with an assault rifle -- expressed shock and horror to reporters.

CBS2's Dave Lopez spoke to several passengers who related stories of fear and fright.

Said one man, "I just heard a bunch of gunshots, popping sounds. Loud popping sounds. Everybody was just dispersing out running and scared. It's just one of those situations. I'm just trying to get to Denver.  And it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon."

Another related, "We ended up underneath a plane. We heard an alarm go off. About 30 seconds later, there was a wave of TSA agents started running down the hallway telling everyone they needed to move. I grabbed my wife by the hand and we ran out into the runway, out on the tarmac. We had no idea what was going on, but someone said 'Gunmen' and we didn't want to be out in the open. Everyone hunkered down near the luggage area for an hour."
