Officials Investigating Hazmat Situation At Upscale Costa Mesa Apartment Complex

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Officials Monday were investigating a Hazmat situation at an upscale, gated apartment complex in Costa Mesa.

Costa Mesa police officers arrived at 400 Enclave Circle around 6 p.m. after an envelope containing a suspicious substance was sent to the leasing office at The Enclave at South Coast Plaza.

Leasing agents and maintenance crews were then kept under quarantine for at least four hours.

A Hazmat team, firefighters, a bomb squad and the FBI also responded to the scene.

Residents say they received little to no information about the incident.

"I feel kind of a little bit lost that we're not being talked to here at the Enclaves. We live here and we're a little concerned that we know nothing yet," Suzie Gillman told KCAL9. "You know, should we be scared, frightened? Are we in danger? We don't know. No one's talking to us. We're a little concerned."

No other details were immediately available.
