Downey Boy, 15, Reportedly Tells Police He Murdered His Father

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — A 15-year-old Downey boy was taken into custody Friday after reportedly telling police he murdered his father.

Downey police responded to a home in 8500 block of Fontana Street around 9 a.m. for a reported homicide, officials said.

Once inside the residence, officers found a deceased male adult. The man, in his 40s, was found dead in bed.

"It appears he had been shot while inside his bedroom," Sgt. Dwayne Cooper said.

The man's teenage son -- a student at Warren High School -- was taken into custody and transported to the Downey Police Department for further questioning.

The father and son lived in the home together and were the only occupants of the home, reported CBS2's Michele Gile.

She also reported the boy called a 911 dispatcher Friday morning to say he had just shot his father.

Neither the suspect or the victim were identified.

Neighbors told Gile the suspect "is a good kid, quiet, a wrestler."

A motive for the murder was unknown but a neighbor told Gile the boy and his father could be heard recently arguing over the time the boy would arrive home.
