6.5 Magnitude Quake Reported In Gulf Of California

MEXICO (CBSLA.com) — The U.S. Geological Survey says a strong quake has struck in the Gulf of California.

The USGS says the magnitude-6.5 temblor in Mexico occurred about 10:54 a.m. Saturday, 46 miles southwest of Etchoropo and 51 miles southwest of Huatabampo.

Caltech says the quake occurred about five miles below the surface.

There was no word yet on injuries or damage.

No further information was immediately available.
