MacArthur Park: Revitalized For Recreation
By Nicole Cormier
MacArthur Park has transformed from its seedy past into a lovely park with many recreation opportunities. The large park is bisected by Wilshire Boulevard and boasts a huge, spring-fed lake. Visitors can stroll around the waters and watch the many birds and other wildlife that call this lake home. The southern side of the park also has a recreation center, a playground, soccer fields, an amphitheater and a bandshell, which was recently redone to offer concerts in the summertime. You can enjoy walking, jogging or an impromptu game of soccer or frisbee in the middle of the day, as its close proximity to anywhere in LA allows residents a quick midday visit. To counteract the crime that once riddled the area, the park is equipped with cameras and the police keep a close eye so people can now enjoy the city oasis care free.
When driving through the Los Angeles streets and making your way to MacArthur Park, drive a vehicle that will fit all of your gear, your friends all while turning heads as you pass. The 2013 GLK350 SUV from Mercedes-Benz of Encino is the ideal machine for city driving, or easily switching gears to off-roading.
