$10K Reward Offered In Death Of Ex-Compton High Football Star

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who fatally shot a former Compton High School football star.

Iyshun Dionte Tornero Bennett, 23, was attending a friend’s birthday barbecue in the front yard of 1734 W. 151st Street in Compton April 16 when an unknown assailant(s) opened fire from the street with a semiautomatic rifle around midnight. The crowd was sprayed with three dozen shots.

Bennett, who had planned to be an X-ray technician, was injured and taken to the hospital, but later died in surgery.

A 39-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy were hurt, but survived.

“The shock and senselessness of this tragedy has left Iyshun’s family devastated,” said Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.

Anyone with more information on the crime was encouraged to call Det. Ralph Hernandez at (323) 890-5500.
