MORENO VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A racial epithet was scratched onto a woman’s car in Moreno Valley over the weekend.

The vehicle’s owner reported the vandalism around 7 a.m. Sunday on a cul de sac in the 13100 block of Pocono Court.

Sgt. Curt Bright of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the “derogatory racial comment” was etched into the paint and caused more than $5,000 in damage.

“Based on the correlation between the victim’s ethnicity and the comment…the incident is being investigated as a possible hate crime,” Bright said.

Anyone with information on the crime was encouraged to contact deputies at (951) 247-8700.
