San Pedro Woman Dies After Being Ejected From Car, Run Over

ATHENS (CBSLA.com) — A 48-year-old woman from San Pedro has died after being ejected and struck by the car she was traveling in, officials said Sunday.

The crash in Athens happened about 10:44 p.m. Saturday at 120th Street and Budlong Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol says the victim was a passenger in a grey 1982 Buick Regal that was traveling at a high rate of speed. For reasons unknown, the driver lost control, and struck four parked cars, according to officials.

The impact of the collision caused Olga Herrarte to be ejected from the vehicle and run over.

The CHP says they are actively searching for the male driver, who fled on foot.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
