Costa Mesa Woman Claims She Pulled Chicken Head Out Of Foster Farms Package

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — Foster Farms, already in the news for contamination at its processing plants, now has another headache: one customer said she pulled a chicken head out of one of their packages.

Jeanine Borger told the Orange County Register that the entire head was inside her roaster.

"I remember the eye being open and looking up at me," said Borger. "The beak, the eyes, the red thing."

Borger  said she bought the chicken to boil to feed to her nearly-toothless dog.

She told the Register she was shocked to pull out the packet of giblets and see the chicken staring back at her.

A spokesman for the company told the Register they were looking into the allegation.

Foster Farms is also under wide scrutiny from federal inspectors over widespread salmonella contamination at its three processing plants in the San Joaquin Valley.

The newspaper ran a picture of Borger examining the chicken head. She took the chicken back to the store for a refund.

The dog ate a different chicken that night, she said.
