Man Wanted For String Of Copper Thefts In Orange County

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Orange County authorities Thursday asked for the public's help in identifying a suspect who poses as a maintenance worker to steal copper from local businesses.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa reports police say surveillance footage recorded by Legal Aid Society of Orange County caught the suspect in the act on the afternoon of July 13.

"The surveillance footage depicts an unknown Caucasian male in his mid-40's to early 50's, white beard, pull into the parking lot in a blue/gray, newer model, Ford F150 quad-cab with McCoy Mills paper plates," spokesman Anthony Bertagna said.

The suspect used his own ladder to access the roof and remove 270 feet of copper pipe, in addition to miscellaneous metal fittings, which were connected to the building's eight air conditioners.

"Detectives believe this is the same suspect who has committed similar crimes in the Cities of Fountain Valley (3), Cypress (1), and Orange. The vehicle, suspect description and MO are all similar," Bertanga added.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims who are unaware their property was taken.

Anyone who can provide information on the suspect or suspect vehicle should contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP- OCCS.
