Castaic Man, 36, Accused Of Trying To Kidnap Son From Estranged Wife

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) —  A 36-year-old Castaic man is behind bars Thursday for allegedly trying to kidnap his son from his estranged wife.

Authorities said David Maryniak attempted to take his child from a location in the 19500 block of Delight Street in Canyon Country on Tuesday.

Officials said when they arrived, a male suspect --  later identified as Maryniak -- fled the scene.

Items retrieved from the scene led authorities to believe Maryniak was attempting to kidnap the child. The actual items were not disclosed nor was the age of the child.

Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Station launched a manhunt.

Maryniak's vehicle was located yesterday around 6 p.m. in a parking lot at Whites Canyon and Soledad Canyon Road.

Officials said they located Maryniak inside a Walgreen's store and he was arrested without incident.

The arrest was made by personnel with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Major Crimes Bureau (MCB). Santa Clarita Valley Station detectives and the Santa Clarita Valley Station Crime Impact Team (CIT) also aided in the manhunt, said authorities.

Additional evidence in the kidnapping was also reportedly recovered from the suspect's vehicle.

Maryniak was booked at Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station for attempted kidnapping and stalking. His bail was set at $1.645 million. He is scheduled to appear in North Valley Court in San Fernando on Friday.
