Teenage Boy Fatally Struck By Metrolink Train At Riverside Rail Crossing

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A teenage boy was fatally struck by a Metrolink train at a rail crossing in Riverside today.

Investigators say the accident happened just before 6 p.m. at the crossing on Madison Street near Indiana Avenue.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz reports the teenager was waiting for a train to pass before crossing the dual tracks on his bicycle when he was hit by another oncoming train.

Riverside Fire Department paramedics pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Riverside Public Information Officer Guy Toussaint said investigators hope a camera on board the train will provide further details. The conductor of the train was interviewed by authorities.

Reports indicate 77 passengers were on board the train at the time of the collision.

Investigators anticipate being at the scene for several hours.
