Inglewood Police Question Victim's Ex-Boyfriend In Deadly Shooting

INGLEWOOD (CBS/AP)  — Police are questioning the ex-boyfriend of a woman killed in an Inglewood apartment complex shooting.

Inglewood police Capt. James Madia says 19-year-old Justin Marquis Scott of Compton was brought in as a person of interest Wednesday but has not been arrested.

A lone gunman fired at three people in an apartment Tuesday killing 18-year-old Crystallyn Nguyen (who went by Asia) and 68-year-old Dora Lee Dawson. Nguyen's boyfriend and Dawson's grandson, 22-year-old Datwan Henderson, was critically injured.

Detectives believe Scott allegedly targeted Henderson and his grandmother who both lived at the apartment complex out of jealousy.

Serene Branson, reporting for KCAL9, attended a vigil Wednesday evening that friends and family of the victims held in their memory.

She reported the violence was sparked by a love triangle.

"My mom was on the floor, my son had come into the kitchen and his girlfriend was laying in the dining room area," said Shamika Shoels, Dawson's daughter.

Shoels was in her apartment Tuesday afternoon when detectives said Scott walked up to the apartment complex where all the victims' lived and first shot Henderson, a romantic rival.

They say Scott then fired on the other two victims.

"I can't believe she's gone," said a friend named Ashley about Asia.

"She's really gone and I don't know why he did it. They seemed fine when I met them together," said a friend named Megan Henderson.

Friends told Branson that Scott first confronted Henderson two weeks ago and made threats.

"He told my son he would kill the whole family over her," Shoels said about the suspect.
