Transient Armed With Wooden Stick Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An investigation was underway Monday after Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a homeless man over the weekend.
Deputies with the Transit Services Bureau responded to a report of a deputy-involved shooting at the intersection of La Cienega and Venice boulevards around 3:48 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
When deputies came in contact with a man believed to be a male transient, the suspect suddenly armed himself with a wooden stick, according to investigators.
The suspect advanced toward the deputies with the wooden stick overhead, at which point a deputy-involved shooting occurred, authorities said.
No deputies were hit by gunfire, according to authorities. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect's identity was not released. No further details were immediately available.
