IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — More than 1,000 students from around the world are competing in the Solar Decathlon at the Great Park in Irvine.
KNX 1070’s Mike Landa reported that collegiate teams are designing and building homes with the latest innovations in solar technology.
The competition, sponsored by the United States Department of Energy, is a real world, hands-on event.
“I can say I put up the structurally-insulated panels, I’ve done the tiling in the bathroom, I helped with the dry wall, the finishing, the painting, you name it, I think I’ve had my hands on it,” said a Catholic University of America student.
The winner of the decathlon will be announced Saturday.
