DA Declines To File Charges Against Justin Bieber In Reckless Driving Case

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Singer Justin Bieber has avoided criminal charges after he was accused of threatening a neighbor and driving recklessly in his exclusive gated community in the west San Fernando Valley.

City News Service reports Bieber, 19, was approached by a next-door neighbor about driving recklessly through The Oaks in Calabasas on March 26.

The resident, who has not been identified, reportedly told a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Bieber spat in his direction and threatened him during the encounter.

The singer declined to speak with the department about the alleged incident, however, his attorney told prosecutors Bieber initially denied spitting on the man.

Deputy District Attorney Alan Yochelson wrote in a charge evaluation worksheet released Wednesday that the evidence "does not show beyond a reasonable doubt" that Bieber acted criminally, although it was noted that the singer's alleged response "seems disproportionate and immature".

Yochelson wrote in a separate charge evaluation worksheet Bieber would not be charged after a neighbor alleged he was driving recklessly through the area on May 27. The prosecutor again cited insufficient evidence, noting there were conflicting witness reports about who was driving the singer's Ferrari at the time.

Investigators reportedly found multiple videos showing that one of Bieber's friends may have been driving during the May incident.
