Motorcyclist, 31, Killed In Newport Beach Crash

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 31-year-old man died Saturday morning when his motorcycle struck a palm tree on the Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach.

Ammar Omar A Sherbini of Santa Ana was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Jennifer Manzella, spokesperson for the Newport Beach Police.

The crash occurred near Superior Avenue and was reported at 2:41 a.m., said Manzella.

Sherbini apparently lost control of his bike and was thrown into a palm tree in the center divider, Manzella said.

The accident reportedly forced the closure of all southbound lanes of PCH and all but one northbound lane.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Newport Beach police.
