Judge Bans 6 Gangs From Area Near Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Superior Court judge has granted a permanent injunction banning members of six Los Angeles street gangs from congregating or carrying weapons within a nearly 4-square-mile area near downtown.

The injunction was issued Thursday by Superior Court Judge Abraham Khan at the request of the Los Angeles City Attorney's office.

It bans the Big Top Locos, Crazys, Diamond Street Locos, Echo Park Locos, Frogtown and Head Hunters from operating with a 3.8-square mile zone.

The area takes in Dodger Stadium and the Echo Park neighborhood.

Authorities say the rival gangs have battled one another in that area for years, committing murder, assault and numerous other crimes.

Under Khan's order, gang members may not possess drugs or firearms and cannot associate with one another or intimidate others within that area.
