Oxnard Police Looking For Driver Who Killed Pedestrian In Hit-And-Run

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — The Oxnard Police Department is looking for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian Friday evening.

The accident occurred just after 10:50 p.m.

Officers arriving at the scene at Hemlock Street and Capstan Drive found a 20-year-old victim who had been hit by a vehicle.

Authorities said debris left at the scene indicated the suspect vehicle -- a silver compact -- was an Infiniti.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Hemlock when Aida Reyes tried crossing at a marked crosswalk at Capstan Drive.

The Infiniti driver failed to yield, struck the victim and, according to witnesses, fled without stopping or rendering aid.

Reyes was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition for several hours. Authorities said the woman succumbed to her injuries Saturday morning.

Officers located the suspect vehicle, a 2003 Infiniti G35,  in a nearby neighborhood. They have been unable to locate the driver.

If you have information about the collision, you're asked to contact Senior Officer Maria Peña at (805) 385-7750.

The investigation is on-going.
