Horses Rescued From Murrieta Property 2 Years Ago Up For Adoption
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Malnourished horses that were rescued from a boarding facility in Murrieta two years ago are now able to be adopted.
In Sept. 2011, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services removed more than a dozen Thoroughbreds from the La Cresta property of Janice Deutsch.
Back then, Deutsch told KCAL9 that the horses were fine.
"Now the county is in here, hauling off horses who have a good home, who are loved, who are extremely well taken care of," she said.
That same day, an animal control officer described the condition of the horses.
"Appalling and neglectful," she said. "Just shocking."
The district attorney's office said Deutsch is due back in court on animal cruelty charges next month.
While the case could go to trial, a judge recently allowed the county to put her horses up for adoption.
Miss Golden Globe was one of the animals seized.
"I think we're quite proud of the fact that she's looking a lot better than the condition she was brought in. You can see she's very curious and friendly. Just for a Thoroughbred, just a nice disposition," said John Welsh of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services.
