Elderly Man Fatally Shot At Upscale Encino Home

ENCINO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Thursday were investigating the death of an elderly man who was fatally shot at his upscale San Fernando Valley home.

KNX 1070's Vytas Safronikas reported that the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue in Encino.

The victim was wounded in the stomach and transported to a local hospital, where he died.

Neighbors told KCAL9's Suraya Fadel the victim was an 80-year-old investment banker, Harvey Cohen.

Officer Cleon Joseph of the Los Angeles Police Department said the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear.

According to police, the victim's wife was home at the time of the shooting and a relative called 911. Police will not say what was reported during the call.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were under investigation by robbery-homicide detectives.

Police say a .45 caliber bullet casing was recovered from inside the property but no weapon was found.

Investigators maintain it was an isolated incident, although it was unusual for the community.

No arrests have been made.
