Suspects Arrested After Downtown LA Pursuit Ends With Crash, Carjacking

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A police pursuit Monday afternoon ended with a crash and carjacking in downtown Los Angeles.

KCAL9's Serene Branson reported that the LAPD's Special Problems Unit tried to pull over a gold Jeep Cherokee on suspicion of auto theft around 5 p.m.

The driver of the SUV, however, took off and inadvertently collided with a red Prius at Third and Beaudry streets.

The SUV then flew through a fence and landed on the side of the southbound 110 Freeway at Third Street.

"The suspects in the gold Jeep Cherokee ran over off the side of the freeway. One of the suspects in the car fled, ran across the freeway, carjacked another vehicle on the northbound lanes of the 110 onramp at Third Street," said Capt. Gary Walters.

Police said the suspect drove to the southbound 101 Freeway, where he stopped and was arrested for carjacking and grand theft auto.

Three others in the Jeep were also arrested.

A gun was located off the Third Street bridge, which police said was thrown when the suspect ran across the freeway.

Two people, a suspect and an occupant of the Prius, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
