SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Chargers’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles wasn’t as costly as they had feared.

Wide receiver Malcom Floyd, who suffered a neck injury in the second half, isn’t expected to be available Sunday when the Chargers face the Tennessee Titans. But he might have avoided a more debilitating injury.

“It’s unlikely that he will play this week,” Chargers coach Mike McCoy said. “They are continuing to do some tests on him throughout the week just to make sure we are doing things the right way.”

The Chargers were able to outlast the Eagles 33-30 on Sunday, thanks to Nick Novak’s 46-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining.

The win came, though, with the concern that Floyd was seriously injured. He left the game on a stretcher and was taken to a Philadelphia-area hospital for additional observation. Floyd was released and able to fly home on the team charter.

Floyd was having a spectacular game before being sandwiched between two defenders. Despite being injured on the second half’s first play, Floyd had five catches for 102 yards for the game.

“The first thing when you talk to him is he said, `Gosh, I should have caught the ball,”‘ McCoy said. “That’s Malcom for you. He’s in good spirits and he is working on getting back as quick as he can.”

The Chargers were able to get back on track thanks to Philip Rivers throwing for a career-high 419 yards with three touchdowns. Their offense was impressive, despite turnovers by Ryan Mathews and Antonio Gates.

“It’s not very often you are going to punt once in a game,” McCoy said. “We played at the right tempo, a little bit more up-tempo than people have seen us play before.”

That the Chargers were able to rebound after squandering a 21-point, third-quarter lead to the visiting Houston Texans in the previous game made Sunday’s triumph sweeter.

“It’s not easy to go to Philadelphia and get a win,” said McCoy, who got his first victory as the Chargers’ head coach. “They bounced back from the short week and the tough loss we had Monday night. But that shows a lot about the character of our football team and the type of coaches we have here. It’s a step in the right direction.”

The Chargers could also be getting rookie linebacker Manti Te’o back this week. Te’o, the team’s second-round pick, has been idled with a sprained right foot since being hurt in a preseason game Aug. 8.
