State Senate Approves Snoopy License Plate Bill

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Snoopy fans could soon be able to show their "Peanuts" pride on the road!

The state Senate passed a bill Wednesday allowing the DMV to issue a commemorative license plate featuring the beloved character.

"We are very excited about this milestone that we've gotten through. It's been a long legislative session for us, pushing this deal through every single gateway that it had to get through," Celeste DeWald, Executive Director at the California Association of Museums told KNX1070. "Now we're just in the final push to get the governor's signature."

The Snoopy license plate would raise money for the state's 1,400 museums and science centers.

"It's a Calif. license plate of course, and in the left-hand corner there is an image of Snoopy doing his happy dance, is what we call it. So it's just going to make everyone smile and be happier on the road," DeWald said. "It's a wonderful image, it's the kind of thing I imagine people want on their car because it's going to make you smile when you go out to your car every single morning to drive to work."

If signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, at least 7,500 plates would need to be preordered before they could be issued.

"We have well over 9,000 people who have already expressed interest in purchasing the plate," DeWald said.
