Deputies Investigating Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Of Menifee Man
MENIFEE (CBSLA.com) — A man was fatally shot after allegedly threatening suicide and confronting Menifee police officers with a weapon Thursday.
Riverside County Sheriff's Department is investigating the shooting, which took place in a normally quiet 55-and-older community in the 27000 block of Medford Way near Sandtrap Dr.
"We heard gunshots, about 11 gunshots," a neighbor told KCAL9's Crystal Cruz.
According to deputies, Menifee Police were called to a home around 4:50p.m. because a man was acting suicidal. When officers arrived, the unnamed man was reportedly on his back patio with a handgun.
"Numerous commands were given to that subject to drop that weapon," said Deputy Albert Martinez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. "They continued verbalizing with the subject; at one point he actually pointed the weapon towards the officers' direction and an officer-involved shooting occurred."
No officers were injured in the incident.
Neighbors told KCAL9's Crystal Cruz the man was recently divorced, though sheriff's deputies could not confirm this information.
