Buildings Evacuated After Suspicious Packages Linked To TSA Screener

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Transportation Security Administration building near the Los Angeles International Airport as well as an Inglewood apartment complex were evacuated Wednesday after suspicious packages found were linked to a former TSA screener who has been arrested by FBI.

The Westside Residences, which houses homeless veterans, located in the 700 block of South Hindry Avenue was evacuated around 2:15 p.m. when a counselor contacted authorities after receiving a package allegedly from TSA screener Nna Onuoha, according to Inglewood Police Lt. Oscar Serrano.

The scene was cleared after officials determined the package only contained papers.

Airport police and LAPD officers responded to a TSA building at LAX at approximately 4:15 p.m. after another suspicious package allegedly sent by Onuoha was located, according to Sgt. Belinda Nettles.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the building has been evacuated and a perimeter has been established.  The FBI and the LAPD Bomb Squad are on scene,” Nettles said.

Westbound lanes of Century Boulevard were shut down for a short time while officials investigated.

Onuoha was arrested shortly before midnight Tuesday in Riverside and charged with two federal counts of making threats to terminals at LAX.
