Burned Body Found Near Castaic Lake Not Missing OC Teen

CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) — A burned body found last week near Castaic Lake is not that of a missing Orange County teenager.

Capt. Mike Parker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that the body belonged to 35-year-old Lamondre Miles, of South Los Angeles, and not 19-year-old Bryce Laspisa, who was discovered missing Aug. 30 when his SUV was found overturned near Lake Hughes Road.

Authorities believe Miles was shot multiple times in the torso in Hawthorne on Sept. 3 before being dropped off and set afire three miles away from where a search was underway for Laspisa.

On Friday, Joanna Amezcua, 23, and her brother, 22-year-old Luis Amezcua, were arrested and charged with one count of murder. Their bail was set at $1 million.

A third suspect, 33-year-old Javier Vega, Joanna Amezcua's boyfriend, was charged with accessory to murder and arson. His bail was set at $575,000.

Meantime, the search continues for Laspisa.

"Divers were in the lake again today, as they have been nearly every day since he's been reported missing. We would really like to find Mr. Laspisa," said Parker.

KCAL9's Tom Wait spoke with Laspisa's mother, Karen, via phone Wednesday night. She said she got word that her son was sighted somewhere in Valencia.

That report, however, remains unconfirmed.

On Tuesday, dogs picked up a scent that may be connected to Laspisa.

"On a few occasions, the dogs appeared to pick up some type of scent. Those scents were pursued, they were near the lake edge, and again, no one was found," Parker said.
