Probe Continues Into Death Of Man Whose Remains Were Found Near Creek Bed

PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday sought information from the public regarding the disappearance and death of a 19-year-old man whose remains were found near a creek bed.

The remains of John Alpert of Palmdale were found by someone who was fishing in Dry Creek near Atkinson Street in the city of Roseville on May 15.

Roseville police say it appeared that Alpert, who had been reported missing, had been dead for a few months.

Earlier in the year, police say Alpert had left his parent's home to travel with a group of illegal freight train riders. He stopped communicating with his family shortly after leaving.

On March 25, about 13 days after he left home, his family reported him missing.

Authorities said that Alpert had never been in trouble with the law and was described as a "responsible and caring young man" who was attending community college.

Police say Alpert's body had injuries consistent with blunt force trauma. They're asking anyone with more information about Alpert's death to call the Roseville Police Department's Investigations Unit at (916) 774-5070.
