Olympic Champion May-Treanor To Assistant Coach USC Women's Sand Volleyball

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Three-time Olympic beach volleyball champion Misty May-Treanor has a new job in the college ranks.

She will be a volunteer assistant coach for the Southern California women's sand volleyball team.

Coach Anna Collier said Tuesday that adding May-Treanor to the staff will elevate the team and make the Trojans a national title contender.

May-Treanor and her partner Kerri Walsh-Jennings became the first pair to win Olympic gold three times in the sport. May-Treanor retired after last year's London Games, while Walsh-Jennings continues to play professionally with a new teammate.

As a collegian at Long Beach State, May-Treanor helped her alma mater to an undefeated season and NCAA title in 1998. She was a three-time AVCA player of the year. Her number is retired inside the Pyramid at Long Beach State.
