Lakers Sign Free Agent Forward Shawne Williams

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free aged forward Shawne Williams.

The six-year veteran played for Mike D'Antoni in New York in 2010-11, where he shot .426 from the field and scored a career-best 454 points.

Williams, who stands at 6"9, holds a career average of 5.7 points with 2.8 rebounds.

Williams was originally selected by the Indiana Pacers in the first round in 2006 and has played in 215 games in his career. He has also spent time with the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey Nets.

Contract terms have not been disclosed, but the expectation is that the contract would be little more than a partial guarantee for this season.

Williams has struggled with a number of issues in recent years, including the use of illegal substances throughout his five seasons in the NBA. He was arrested in 2007 and 2010 on drug charges.

Under D'Antoni, Williams had his best season, appearing in 64 games and shooting 40.1 percent from beyond the arch.
