SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — An inmate serving a criminal commitment at a psychiatric hospital has been booked on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of another inmate, authorities said Sunday.

The incident occurred about 11:41 a.m. Saturday at Patton State Hospital on E. Highland Avenue.

San Bernardino police say that’s where 40-year-old George Carver physically attacked another inmate, rendering him unconscious.

The 65-year-old unidentified victim was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with severe head injuries.

He died six hours later, police said.

Carver was subsequently arrested and booked into the West Valley Center on suspicion of murder.

The District Attorney’s office is expected to review the case.

Anyone with more information about the case was asked to speak with Detective Marco Granado at (909) 384-5628 or Sergeant Robertson at (909) 841-5361.
