Babysitter, 23, Accused Of Murdering Child, 1

HESPERIA (CBSLA.com) — San Bernardino County Sheriff's have charged a 23-year-old man with murder of a 1-year-old that was allegedly in his care.

Officials said on Wednesday at approximately 10:45 p.m. they responded to a medical call in the 1700 block of Olive Street in Hesperia.

Upon arriving on the scene, they found a 1-year-old child who was having difficulty breathing.

The child was taken to Desert Valley Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Due to what officials called "suspicious circumstances" surrounding the death, detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department assisted with an investigation.

The child -- whose name and gender was not released -- died from blunt force trauma. A neighborhood babysitter, Daniel Ruiz, was questioned by detectives and was subsequently arrested on a murder charge.

Ruiz was booked at Central Detention Center, in San Bernardino, where he is currently being held without bail.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Mauricio Hurtado or Sergeant Trevis Newport of the Sheriff's Homicide Detail at 909-387-3589.
