When authorities arrived, they discovered the body of an Asian adult female in the garage.

KCAL9's Jeff Nguyen reported the woman had been tied up.

Neighbors say the home belongs to Vilma Chau, a prominent commercial real estate agent in the San Gabriel Valley.

Chau, 66, reportedly lived with an adult son.

Neighbor Andy Wang told Nguyen that he had been teaching Chau tai-chi for nine years.

Detectives said family members had not heard from the victim for several days. When officials arrived at the residence, they said they detected a strong odor emanating from the garage.

At that time, Sheriff's Station deputies were called to investigate.

Officials said they found the woman dead and the victim's 44-year-old son on the premises. He is being held on a possible probation violation.

The man has been questioned but authorities have not officially named him as a suspect in his mother's murder.

The name of the son is being withheld at this time, according to the LA County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone with information should contact the Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
